CREATING A citizen-led neighbourhood

Inspired by the 15 Minute City concept, the Camden Green Loop is an on-going process of co-design that brings together design expertise and local lived experience. We are devising a plan for the ideal liveable neighbourhood that meets the needs of the people who live, visit and work here. We then source funding to make these projects a reality.

BUILDING THE GREEN LOOp

The Camden Green Loop came about as the pandemic forced us to consider whether our local neighbourhood’s were truly fulfilling their role and serving their communities. It is both a handy tool that maps out our cultural and green assets, including the flagship projects of Camden Town Unlimited & Euston Town BIDs; and also a democratic platform to devise and exchange ideas for improvements to our public spaces. We believe that living in a 15 Minute City can enrich our lives and community links, boost small independent business, support our urban environment and improve public health. We also believe that the changes made must be led by the people who live in this neighbourhood in order to have a meaningful, lasting impact.

By connecting with each other around this concept we can imagine and deliver projects that are part of a wider, cohesive strategy to create a truly liveable neighbourhood.

CAMDEN GREEN LOOP CO-DESIGN METHOD

The Camden Green Loop co-design methods prioritise the education and empowerment of local people.

From its inception, the Camden Green Loop has been devised in collaboration with local groups. In order to design project ideas, we employ ‘Neighbourhood Designers’ who are paid to attend workshops and site visits with design professionals, and formulate solutions to the challenges and potential of our public spaces. These project ideas are stored in our Common Plan, to be brought to life once funding makes them viable.

Our Neighbourhood Designers have also helped to design the project’s brand identity, written its objectives, hosted exhibitions and contributed to our Arts & Culture Approach.
